5 Home Improvement Stars Who Are Outspoken About Their Faith
By Movieguide® Contributor
If you’re a DIY or home renovation show fan, this list features several familiar faces. Whether it’s a host citing scripture on social media or giving glory to God during interviews, these home improvement stars stand firm in their faith. It’s refreshing to see celebrities in the entertainment industry share the love of Christ with their fans.
Erin and Ben Napier
Power couple Erin and Ben Napier host the series HOME TOWN and two spin-off shows. They’re outspoken Christians who speak often about their faith and make sure it’s known that family is a top priority. Ben shares a daily Bible verse with his fans on social media.
“We get a lot of messages from people that tell us they can see our faith even if we don’t talk about it,” Erin shared on the “Love Beyond” podcast. “That’s really lovely to hear because you wish you could say more about your faith when you have a public platform. And it often gets edited away.”
She continued, “But it’s so lovely that people are still finding light and optimism and positivity, which for us comes from a relationship with Christ, but for them it may be the first step to wanting to learn more about that. And so I feel lucky that that’s what we get to do for a living every day.”
“It’s great to be on this side of the ministry and see, you know, even TV stars can minister in different ways,” Ben added.
Joanna and Chip Gaines
Joanna and Chip Gaines found fame on the home renovation show FIXER UPPER. They created the MAGNOLIA NETWORK empire, including Magnolia Magazine, Hearth & Hand home decor, Magnolia Market and beyond. The couple is grounded in their faith and creates clean content.
“I will say there probably been five pivotal moments in my life where I can say that was God’s voice, that was him, and I felt the sense of peace, almost like that moment where you get chills and you know there’s something else,” Joanna told Oprah Winfrey.
“That’s something that since I was a little girl, I’ve experienced God in that real way, very relational,” she continued.
Chip shared the different ways God has shown up in his life.
“God shows up for me in very practical real ways. Like I work, that’s how I meet with God. When I sweat, and when I’m lonely, I’m sad, I’m mad about something. I mean, when you chop firewood, or [on] demo day. You don’t have to have any talent to be good at demolition. You just want to break stuff,” he said.
Dave and Jenny Marrs
HGTV hosts Dave and Jenny Marrs are the faces behind the series FIXER TO FABULOUS and several spin-off series. They’re devout Christians who are bold when discussing their relationship with the Lord. Jenny often shares scriptures on social media, encouraging her fans to trust God through difficult times.
“I happened upon a tucked-away truth in the Psalms that jumped off the page this morning. ‘The Lord will work out his plans for my life…’” Marrs shared on Instagram, along with a quote from Psalm 138:8. “The Lord will work out his plans for my life…In the margin, I had scribbled notes from a season of uncertainty in my life. Today, as I reread my questions and the date jotted beside them, I can only thank God [for] the profound truth in these ten words.”
“At the time I didn’t know what was ahead. It was a season of change and uncertainty and I clung to the promise that God was working even when I couldn’t see it,” she continued. “And it turns out. The promise holds true. His plans are always better. He is always working. He is faithful.”
Ben and Christi Dozier
Husband-and-wife duo Ben and Christi Dozier host the home renovation show BUILDING ROOTS. They’re also the founders of the ROOT DESIGN COMPANY and build dream homes for their clients. Both of them are bold when speaking about their faith.
“Our work-life balance really starts in the morning with our relationship. We have coffee early and sometimes we talk about business or life. We talk about family. Sometimes we just pray because the day is hard,” Ben told TV INSIDER about their work dynamic.
“The TV show is a lot of fun,” he continued. “It’s definitely a lot of hard work managing four kids and four businesses, a TV show, and a nonprofit. Hopefully, we get a Season 3 because we love what we did this year and love to do it again.”
Leanne Ford
Leanne Ford made her mark on the home renovation show HOME AGAIN WITH THE FORDS alongside her brother Steve. She’s now the host of several spin-off series. While she’s known for her eye for design, she also has a heart for the Lord and is outspoken about her faith.
“I hope people know to follow their North Star — that you’re never too old, or too uneducated, or too anything to NOT follow your dreams,” Ford said about how she hopes to impact fans. “God puts something on your heart for a reason. Listen and pursue it joyfully and wholeheartedly! Don’t be afraid to fail. You will! Who cares? Get up and go again. You got this.”
