Masters: Tiger Woods posts career-worst as wheels fall off

Tiger Woods entered Saturday’s third round of The Masters with a glimmer of hope. He sat seven shots behind the lead held by the trio of Bryson DeChambeau, Max Homa and Scottie Scheffler.

But knowing the 48-year-old legend played 23 holes Friday and beat most of the field doing so, if Woods posted a low number on Moving Day, he might stand a chance.

Golf fans could have been treated to another Sunday at Augusta where Tiger is the talk of the tournament.

Instead, things have gone awry as his game has fallen off the rails.

For the third straight day, Woods bogeyed the par-3 4th. But he showed some life with a great approach and beautiful birdie putt on five to get back to even.

It has been all downhill from there.

Woods carded a bogey, double bogey, double bogey, bogey dropping him to 7-over for the tournament.

His front nine 42 is the worst of his Masters career, per Sports Illustrated’s Bob Harig. His previous worst was 40, which he did twice in 1997 (won by 12) and 2004 (T22).

Woods’ poor play can be summed up by his terrible three-putt on six from inside 10 feet.

Sadly, he is far from contending and fans online are reeling.

Tiger has appeared to be stiffening up as his round has progressed.

He in all likelihood is in some measure of pain. But the question at this point, will he persist and finish out the round?

He has the entire back nine to go and all the reason in the world to withdraw yet again. Golf fans, including this one, hope that does not happen.
