California man charged with felony animal cruelty, 17 dogs rescued

Hollister Police Animal Care and Services said that they arrested a man for felony animal cruelty on Monday. Police received a report that a community member was offering ear cropping, artificial insemination and other services to local dog owners. These allegations were then investigated.On Monday, Hollister Police Animal Care and Services and Hollister Police Department served a search warrant on the 200 block of Bravanda Circle. Animals were found without food or water and living in built-up feces. Luis Giovanni Perez, 34, a believed associate of HollisterBullies831, was arrested and booked for felony animal cruelty and possession of a substance used as an anesthetic during surgery. Police said in a media release that 17 dogs were rescued and given veterinary care. The animals did not appear to be in medical distress and were given back to their owners the following day. “Hollister Police Animal Care and Services would like to remind the public that it is unlawful for any person having charge or custody of any animal, either as owner or otherwise, to subject any animal to needless suffering, inflict unnecessary cruelty upon an animal, or in any manner abuse an animal, or deprives an animal of necessary sustenance, drink, or shelter as it violates California PC 597,” said police in a media release.
