Caitlin Clark records 1,000th career assist vs. Nebraska

Caitlin Clark is chasing multiple milestones as her Iowa Hawkeyes take on Nebraska on Sunday afternoon in Lincoln.

Clark is closing in on the all-time scoring record for women’s college basketball, but she hit a different milestone first against the Huskers. With her 5th assist of the afternoon, she officially got to 1,000 for her career.

Here’s video of Clark’s 1000th dime:

Clark is third all-time in assists for women’s college basketball players. She’s third in total assists since the 2001-02 season, trailing only Gonzaga’s Courtney Vandersloot and Oregon’s Sabrina Ionescu.

Penn State’s Suzie McConnell is 3rd all-time with 1,307 assists in her career. Clark would need to return to Iowa for a 5th season in order to have a chance at catching McConnell’s all-time record. Clark has an extra year of eligibility remaining due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Clark entered Sunday’s game needing 39 points against the Huskers to surpass Washington’s Kelsey Plum as the all-time leading scorer in women’s college basketball history. She has scored more than 39 in a game 3 times so far this season.

Clark had 3,489 points in her career entering Sunday’s game.
