MISSOULA, Mont. – A new exhibition opened on Tuesday at the Montana Museum of Art and Culture in Missoula. It’ll be titled “Gates of Friendship” which will include Asian and Asian American works of art, all of which has come into the museum in the last year.
The Montana Museum of Art and Culture gets the chance to tell the story of the Asian continent, demonstrating work from places beyond China, Japan, and Korea. “Gates of Friendship” will be an extension of past Asian art that’s been collected through the museum.
The exhibit opened Tuesday at noon and will run to the end of the year. Most of the art being shown has come via donations, with local donors wanting a spot for their pieces to be shown close to home.
“There’s also works of art from local collectors in the community and that includes not just ancient historical materials, but also contemporary art. So, we have a few donors that are members of the community, love and are inspired by things Asian, all things Asian and have felt like this is a good home for their work to land,” said Museum Director, Rafael Chacon
The museum works very closely with the University of Montana and maintains itself on UM‘s campus.
Chacon said that every object in the exhibition is a link and a connection to other cultures and he wants people to experience that.
